The reason we engineer hard pads in the EU and not soft pads in China is the noise + durability trade-off. An 18 kg L-TEK pad — dense MDF base with sound-dampening internal layering — does not slide, rattle, or transmit impact downstairs the way a 2 kg foam pad does. What about Pump It Up — is that the same as DDR?
Pump It Up (Andamiro, Korean franchise) uses a 5-panel layout instead of DDR's 4-panel layout, so the pads are distinct.
